I recently started playing
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time again and it's literally been years since I played it the first time. This game holds a special place for me because it was actually the FIRST video game I played all the way through.
Now, growing up we had an SNES but I kind of failed...epically. I tried playing Toy Story in the lovely pixelated fashion, but I never got the hang of it. We also had Kirby (which was just released on DS) and I wasn't very good at that either. However when it came to the Karate level I PWND!!
Then we had the PSone and while we had some games for that, the only one I was ever really into was CTR. Our old disc actually broke and I remember Buddy calling all around town to find a copy of it. We also had Wheel of Fortune, but nothing was ever totally in depth.
Star Ocean on the other hand, many years later, clicked for me. It was right after we moved here (to North Carolina), and I had nothing to do. I looked through the games Charlie and John had acquired over the years and well...it had a shiny box.
With that said, the box was a bit worn (despite being played ONCE...halfway through), so it appeared to be well loved, and the summary sounded fairly good at that. I'm a sucker for the "back of the box" but who isn't? I'll admit, I died fighting my first Zombie Dragon and I needed a bit of help, but for the most part, I excelled. (By "excelled" I obviously mean "was about average.") I cannot express in words how I felt upon the excitement of sythesizing something really awesome...like a rune blade, not to mention swapping out people who had better talents in certain categories to make even COOLER things!
I've played other games since that one, notably acquiring a deep obsession for Kingdom Hearts, but I look back on that one fondly. I've played enough to know that as far as games go, it's pretty cliched, and the graphics aren't super (but it WAS 2003 when it first came out) but whenever I get an urge to question my existence I think solely of that game. I won't spoil it for anyone, but seriously, it makes you feel pretty insignifcant.
I've forgotten most of the beginning, and probably a goodly amount of what happens berfore the plot twists but I have nearly as much of that excitement at least in reference to the synthesizing. That was EASILY my favorite part. Also, it has my favorite attack EVAR, which is Shotgun Blast.
It totally did GOBS of damage, when used appropriately. I also prefer the "real time" battles compared to the turn based systems, because you can totally get all up in their grill so they don't have a chance to attack back. Anyway, I think I'm MORE anxious to play it than I was then, because now I understand games better.
I feel the need to have a disclaimer here though. I'm actually a pretty shoddy gamer, I am however, an excellent video game partner! Most games I just let Buddy walk around and fight, while I keep my eyes peeled for chests and tell her a better fighting strategy and what to equip. Star Ocean 3 however was played ALONE...oooh ahhh.
What was your first game?

Haha. I'm not into video games, except for classic Atari games.
@abilene_piper_lg - Haha, really? Intriguing!
@possums_rock - Yeah. Just look at my record on Centipede. Haha...hardly anyone ever got that high.
@abilene_piper_lg - OOOH I remember playing that as a wee tyke, but I kind of failed at the Atari games. They have NO room for error...oh well.
@possums_rock - No kidding. You better be on top of your game. The graphics were really cheesy, but they posed a challenge altogether, and you could never beat the games. That's what was so interesting. Haha.
@abilene_piper_lg - Yeah, it certainly is interesting to have a never ending impossible game! I actually remember my dad (who HATES video games) having a deep love for Asteroids. He would play that for HOURS!
@possums_rock - Nice. I never was really great at that one. I also liked some old-school Nintendo games as well (classic Mario Bros., Dr. Mario, Tetris, etc.)
@abilene_piper_lg - I've never played a Mario game...ever. That makes me kind of sheltered, haha. I do fail at Tetris, despite hijacking my sister's hand held version to uh...improve.
@possums_rock - Ha. That's interesting. Tetris can be difficult to get the hang of at first.
